A Study into a Training Program for Social Skills and Self-Efficacy Improvement using Parent Counseling

Abstract
This was a study into a training program for social skills and self-efficacy improvement using parent counseling. The subjects of this study were elementary school students from the first through second year in Anyang city. The subjects were 5 boys and they visited the E counseling center on a voluntary basis. For the purposes of this study, the social skills training program took place over a total of 20 sessions-each, with each session lasting 90 minutes, and the sessions taking place once a week. The social skills training program consisted of relationship skills, interpersonal relationship skills, feeling skills and training in the maintenance of social skills. This study made use of both the SSRS(Parent and Teacher form) and Self-Efficacy scale for pre and post test analysis. The data were processed by means of the SPSS 20.0 evaluation. A nonparametric test was carried out to confirm the effectiveness of this program. Moreover, the differences in the scores between the pre and post tests analyzed by means of Wilcoxon¡¯s signed ranks test. Our results indicated that the social skills training program using parent counseling was successful in improving children¡¯s social skills and self-efficacy. In addition, the program was also successful in bringing about positive changes to the social skills behavior in the subjects over the course of the sessions.
